Dr. Michael Schmidt is the founder and director of the Hypnosis Wellness Center which opened its doors the summer of 1995. Dr. Schmidt has a Masters and Ph.D. in Education.  His doctoral program had a specialization in Adult Leadership.  Interestingly, Dr. Schmidt’s doctorial thesis was research on brain dominance and learning styles. Much of his research was garnered from his 27 years as an adjunct college professor instructing students from freshman to Masters level Programs.  

In the early 90’s, the Houston Police Training Academy taught Forensic Hypnosis to officers so that they could obtain creditable evidence that would be admissible in court.  This intriguing field captivated Dr. Schmidt’s fascination with the workings of the mind and encouraged him to pursue additional formal hypnosis training.  Dr. Schmidt is a lifelong learner and keeps current in hypnosis and hypnotherapy by taking 50 to 100 hours of continuing education training each year.  He is considered to be performing in the top 1 % of the professional hypnotism profession.  Dr. Schmidt does NOT perform on stage as an entertainment hypnotist.  He believes that stage hypnosis is best left for entertainers and show business performers.

In December 2006, Dr. Schmidt retired from the Houston Police Department, Training Academy after a fruitful 21 year career.  He has continued to pursue his career passion of professional hypnosis.  Some of his duties at the police academy included teaching, instructing, evaluating teacher performance developing needs assessments for the entire police department and arranging training for the managers and command staff. 

Lastly, Dr. Schmidt was ordained in the Catholic Church in 1984 after 4 years of theology training.  His ordination conferred faculties that include baptizing, witnessing marriages, assisting at liturgy, preaching and pastoral counseling.

International Medical & Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA)

IMDHA is unique among Hypnosis organizations. Our members are required to take a minimum of 120-hours of Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy Education and earn 30 continuing hours of education each year to maintain membership.
